December 2025 – Ask a Health Coach

You have questions, we have answers.

“As I get older, I find the days go by quickly and I waste a lot of time. How do I rediscover a sense of purpose at this point in my life?”

This question was asked by a participant in a recent Sharp Again Stay Sharp Coaching group session.

It’s never too late to reconnect with what gives your life meaning. Our sense of purpose evolves throughout the different seasons of life, and exploring it can bring renewed energy, motivation, and joy. This reflective work itself is a good brain boosting activity!

Spend some time thinking, evening journaling, on these key elements of purpose:

Your Values – What truly matters to you now? What principles guide your decisions and give your life direction?

Your Inspiration – Who do you admire and why? Often, the people we look up to reveal qualities we want to cultivate in ourselves.

Your Strengths – What are you good at? How could you use those abilities in new or meaningful ways?

Your Interests – What topics, hobbies, or activities spark your curiosity or make you feel most alive? What have you always wanted to learn or return to?

Your Contribution – How might you make a positive impact—big or small—on others or your community? What do you have to give?

Once you’ve reflected, choose one small action each week that aligns with your values, strengths, and interests.

Small, steady steps build momentum and gradually deepen your sense of purpose — and that purpose, in turn, strengthens your brain, health, and overall well-being.
